Samos/Vathy Tag 1
Wunderschön, paradisisch und doch sitzt hier das Elend. Heute streikt Samos, alles lahm gelegt, nicht mal ein Bus oder ein Taxi am Flughafen. Eine friedliche Demo fand statt (siehe Video), nicht gegen die Flüchtlinge sondern für alle gegen die „unerträgliche“ Lage, die Regierung und die EU Flüchtlingspolitik. Ob es alle gleich schwer haben, ist dahin gestellt.
Die Kapazität des Flüchtlingskamps soll für bis zu ca. 750 Menschen reichen. Fakt aber dass sich dort ca. 4000 aufhalten. Sprich: drum herum ist ein Kamp außerhalb des eigentlichen Kamps, genannt der Dschungel. Ich habe mir einen schnellen Besuch gestattet. Die Bilder sprechen für sich. Es ist sehr vergleichbar mit der Idomeni Katastrophe vor 3 Jahren. Die Stadt Samos soll rund um die 7000 Einwohner haben. Deswegen kann man sich vorstellen, dass das Krankenhaus total überfüllt und mit der Situation überfordert ist.
Morgen findet das Treffen mit dem Arzt, der für das Help desk im general Hospital zuständig sein wird, statt.
Das Licht im Dunkeln sind Mahmud und Nöemi von schwizerchrüz.ch Michael Räber die u.a. sehr bemüht sind ein Community Center wie damals in Lesvos zu eröffnen (One happy Family – Community Center). Außerdem haben sie für mich die Unterkunft organisiert, mir das Projekt und das Krankenhaus gezeigt und zum Essen eingeladen. Wie man im Deutschen seit kurzem sagen kann: Ehrenmann & Ehrenfrau!

Wunderful, paradisiacal and despite that misery is next to here. Today Samos is on strike, everything is paralyzed, not even a bus or a taxi at the airport. A peaceful demonstration took place, not against the refugees but for all against the „intolerable“ situation, the government and the EU refugee policy. Whether it is same difficult for everyone or not its not the quastion. The capacity of the refugee camp should be enough for up to 750 people. But the fact is that there are about 4000 people there. In other words: around it is a camp outside the actual camp, called the jungle. I allowed myself a quick visit. The pictures speak for themselves. It is very comparable with the Idomeni disaster 3 years ago. The city of Samos is said to have around 7000 residents. Therefore the hospital is totally overcrowded and overstrained with the situation. Tomorrow the meeting will take place with the doctor who will be responsible for the Help desk in the general hospital.
The spot of hope in the dark are Mahmud and Nöemi from @schwizerchrüz.ch michael Räber who are working on opening a community center like the one they did in Lesvos (One happy Family – Community Center). They also organized the accommodation for me, showed me the project and the hospital and invited me to dinner. As you can say recently in German: Honourable man & woman!
